It was four years ago today that a violent mob of then-President Donald Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to stop the certification of the 2020 presidential election results. Thousands of rioters breached the Capitol building, resulting in millions of dollars in damages, hundreds of injuries, multiple lives lost, and a divided country.
This failed insurrection and disturbing attack on our democracy was spurred by months of MAGA Republicans pushing the Big Lie, spreading misinformation, and claiming the election was stolen from Trump. The outgoing President told rally attendees to “fight like hell” after repeating false claims of voter fraud before they stormed the Capitol, and more than 100 Republican members of Congress voted against certifying President Biden’s victory.
Ultimately, democracy prevailed. But today, on this fourth anniversary of the January 6th attack, Congress is once again certifying presidential election results — this time for President-elect Trump.
In a few weeks, the United States will have a criminal, liar, and extremist back in the White House.
But know that if he breaks the law again and attacks our most fundamental freedoms, I will do everything in my power to hold him accountable. I’m ready, and the California Department of Justice is ready.
It’s going to take a lot of time and resources to defend our state from the MAGA agenda during the Trump 2.0 Administration, which is why I’m counting on grassroots supporters like you to fuel our fight.
In solidarity,
Rob
