Just a few minutes ago, my Democratic colleagues elected me to be the new Senate Majority Leader in the Oregon Legislature.

I'm humbled by their confidence in me, and excited about the opportunity we have to move Oregon forward. My friend and mentor, outgoing Majority Leader, Senator Ginny Burdick has set the stage for the work ahead – our fight to build the walkout-proof majority Oregon's working families deserve.

I'm honored to lead the Senate Democrats to take on our most critical challenges: affordable health care, workers' rights, protecting our environment and tackling climate change, re-opening our schools and businesses, and ensuring every student has the support they need to succeed.

And, of course, we'll be working with the Governor and our partners in local government to address this pandemic, protect public health, and get Oregon back to work safely.

In other words: We have a lot of work to do.

But we've got the team to get it done, and I've never been more confident about our ability to win the fights that really matter.
