Dear Green American,

We’re in the midst of a property insurance crisis.

Throughout the United States, fires, floods, and other climate disasters are destroying people’s homes.

Yet rather than protecting people’s homes from the rising costs of the climate crisis, insurance companies are withdrawing coverage and doubling, tripling, and quadrupling rates while raking in huge profits and leaving consumers to foot the bill.

Despite this growing crisis, working families are kept in the dark about insurance availability and rates, while their homes are lost or threatened by more frequent and severe extreme weather. And so far, insurance companies face no accountability.

TAKE ACTION

The Federal Insurance Office and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners have taken an important step by collecting data on premiums and claims that could expose how insurance companies are raising rates, limiting coverage, and denying claims due to climate change — but that information remains behind closed doors.

The public deserves to see this data. People need it to make informed decisions. We also need information to hold insurance companies accountable, and — most importantly — to propose solutions to the climate-driven property insurance crisis.

So we’re increasing the pressure. We’re delivering a petition from people across the country directly to the Federal Insurance Office to demand the agency make this data publicly available.

You work for the people, not the big insurance companies. Make data on insurance premiums and claims publicly available so that we can see how insurance companies are profiting off the climate crisis while sticking customers with the bill.
