4 years ago today, I was walking into the Capitol for my shift as a
Capitol police officer.
I wouldn't know it yet, but my life was about to change forever.
I'd be attacked. Beaten with clubs, baseball bats. Sprayed with WD-40,
pepper spray, bear spray. Called slurs that I'd never been called in my
life.
An angry mob, emboldened by Donald Trump and MAGA-extremists pushing the
Big Lie, would storm the Capitol. Never caring about the lives of me and
my fellow officers. They destroyed a sacred place, an institution
dedicated to upholding the rule of law. And they attempted to destroy
democracy.
My life changed on January 6. It's the reason I've spent the last 4 years
fighting.
[ [link removed] ]Our fight for democracy is never over, especially with Donald Trump
taking office two weeks from today. I need you to dig deep right now. Will
you chip in a split contribution of $5 or more to Dunn’s
Democracy Defenders and Sarah McBride to help reach our goal before
midnight tonight?

It's not dramatic to say that our democracy is on thin ice – but I can't
save it alone.
