On January 6, 2021, the U.S. Capitol — recognized around the world as a symbol of democracy — was flooded with a violent mob determined to overthrow the will of the people. Confederate flags and Nazi symbols — ideas that we fought wars against — paraded through the halls of our Capitol during the election certification process.

This year’s process stands in stark contrast to the insurrectionists of that dismal day. While this November served as a bitter reminder of the work we need to do, our concessions remain peaceful.

On the other hand, Donald Trump and every member of Congress who pushed his “Big Lie” are responsible for the violence on that day. They must be held accountable for what they’ve done.

We owe it to those who risked their lives that day — and to future generations — to continue standing up for the truth.

Thank you for standing with me in this fight. Together, we will ensure that such a dark moment will never happen again.
