Happy New Year, John!
A lot’s happened since we last reached out. A new Congress has taken power. The Commanders won 12 games for the first time this century. And the Walmart “Birkin” has taken the internet by storm.
But one thing that hasn’t changed is the need to hold the Supreme Court accountable.
Unlike every other federal court, the Supreme Court operates without a binding code of ethics. Justices are free to accept lavish gifts, fail to disclose financial entanglements, and refuse to recuse themselves in cases of clear conflicts of interest.
There’s absolutely nothing stopping SCOTUS justices from ruling exactly the way Trump wants for the next 4 years. And if Trump is able to confirm additional justices while he’s in office, we could be stuck with a corrupt, far-right court for decades.
That’s why we partnered with our friends at Civic Shout to urge Congress to pass the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act. This landmark legislation will finally require justices to follow an enforceable code of ethics, make their financial disclosures more transparent, and establish clear recusal standards for cases where conflicts of interest arise.
It just makes sense, John.
Add your name TODAY and demand that Congress pass the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act. Let’s make it clear that no one — not even a Supreme Court justice — is above the law: [link removed]
