John, Four years ago today, we witnessed an attempted coup on the United States Capitol by insurrections who didn’t like the results of an election. Without a doubt, the January 6th attack was unprecedented, dangerous, and disruptive. But in the years leading up to it, extreme Republicans had already been running a highly strategic, well-funded campaign — one committed to implementing extreme gerrymandered maps so they could manipulate the results of elections. And the scariest part of it all is that the January 6th coup attempt was not an isolated attack — nor was it the end of it. Gerrymandering still poses a critical threat to our democracy, with opponents of fair maps actively undermining redistricting reforms, electing Election Deniers, and threatening mid-decade map redraws. But the story of our democracy is one of an ongoing struggle. The fight for a truly representative government has existed since the beginning of our nation. And now, with an incoming Trump administration and a Republican Congress, we’re right in the middle of an important chapter of our nation’s story. Are we going to succumb to the anti-democratic forces or will we defend our democracy and strengthen our country for years to come? We know you’ll do everything you can to protect and enhance democracy. And we’re glad — and so grateful — you’re a part of the team. We can do it. - National Democratic Redistricting Committee
