Friend,
Episode 232 dropped January 5: Host Sam Goldman comments on the fourth anniversary of the January 6th coup attempt.
Then, she chats with co-producer of the pod, Mark Tinkleman, exploring
questions we’ve received. In this conversation, Sam and Mark discuss the
current political landscape in the U.S., focusing on the lack of
visible resistance against the rising fascism represented by
Trump/Republi-fascist return to power.
They draw parallels with South
Korea’s history of mass mobilization against oppressive regimes,
emphasizing the need for sustained and organized resistance. They
highlight the urgency of action in the face of a rapidly deteriorating
political situation and the necessity of mass action to disrupt the
status quo. The discussion also addresses the phenomenon of people
tuning out from political issues, the urgency of challenging the
non-fascist majority, and the dangers of basing movements solely on
popular opinion.

Sam Goldman: A lot of people think that tuning in means that if I listen, if I look, all I can do is bear witness to it. And yeah, that would be awful. But the point of looking, the point of tuning in, is to take that understanding of that threat and the reality that this is a regime that imperils humanity and the planet itself. And then act on that. We can't let that stand. That's what tuning in is for.
Mark Tinkleman: What our task needs to be is not to try to win over fascists, not to try to find common ground, but actually work on the decent people to transform these tens of millions of people into a force that could actually defeat the fascists.
