“ERCOT issues weather watch ahead of freezing weather conditions across Texas,” Dallas Morning News' Zacharia Washington — “ERCOT, the electrical grid operator for most of Texas, issued a weather watch Sunday evening ahead of an Arctic air blast expected to bring freezing temperatures and bitterly cold weather conditions this week to a wide swath of the state.
The watch, which begins Monday and runs through Friday, was issued “due to forecasted cold weather across the ERCOT region, higher electrical demand, and the potential for lower reserves.”
Grid conditions, however, are expected to be normal during the weather watch period, ERCOT stated in the advisory. The watch does not indicate [ [link removed] ] the state will see any widespread outages or that ERCOT will call for energy conservation, but it does signal a higher than expected demand on Texas’ power infrastructure.
An arctic air mass has arrived in North Texas, ushering in below-freezing temperatures, extremely cold weather conditions and a chance later in the week for wintry precipitation, according to the National Weather Service.
The extreme cold will linger in the region over the next several days, with temperatures expected to rise above freezing most days before dropping again each evening.
