Washington, D.C. (January 6, 2025) – A new investigative three -part series from the Center for Immigration Studies, “First Blood: Anatomy of Border-Crosser’s Chicago Terror Attack,” details an attack by an illegal alien terrorist that received little coverage by U.S. media or attention from the FBI. The attack and later suicide by hanging of the suspect in Cook County jail, short-circuiting a trial prompted the Center to travel to Chicago to learn more about the incident and to remind the country that a border-crossing terrorist, often dismissed as a hypothetical fantasy, has, in fact, struck on U.S. soil.
"While the recent New Orleans terror attack was scrutinized for links to illegal immigration, the dramatic, white-knuckle Chicago terror attack on October 26 — directly tied to an illegal border-crosser — has received comparatively little attention,” said Todd Bensman, the Center’s national security fellow. “Sidi Mohammad Abdallahi entered the U.S. in March 2023 and later targeted Jewish residents, police officers, and paramedics in Chicago, in significant part to support the U.S.-designated terrorist group Hamas in its war with Israel."
Bensman, who secured the first and only interview with the victim, describes the policies that laid the groundwork for this attack by a Muslim extremist from one of the 26 countries the U.S. deems a national security threat. With hundreds of thousands of special interest aliens like this attacker allowed to stay in the country with minimal vetting — along with the 400 immigrants on the FBI’s terror watch list apprehended at the border since 2021 — the stakes are high. This series seeks to remind Americans of the grave security risks posed by an open-border policy and the reason for the deportations that Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has promised to fight.
Bensman stated, “For unknown reasons, the FBI has kept an arms-length distance from this case, which occurred a week before the presidential election. However, this attack warrants the same attention and study as all other terror attacks to identify lessons and tactics used that might help authorities prevent futures ones involving illegal aliens.”
Part Two will examine what we do and do not know about the shooter.
