Dear John,

The 2020 legislative session has been interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. While this may feel like a relief, and a break from anti-LGBTQ bills that were pending, we must remain vigilant. Some legislatures have scheduled to come back and some will use COVID-19 relief bills as a way to push their anti-LGBTQ legislation.

Yes, legislators are currently focused on the pandemic but this is not the time for us to lose focus. COVID-19 disproportionately affects the LGBTQ community due to a variety of factors. We need to ensure that bills introduced around COVID-19 keep the health and safety of our community in mind. In addition we need to make sure that unrelated, harmful LGBTQ measures aren’t added on to these bills.

We are closely monitoring COVID-19 relief bills to make sure nothing is added to harm LGBTQ people.
