Detroit, Michigan, September 15, 2024 (AP News) A man who fired one shot that killed two people at a popular tailgating site after Sunday’s Detroit Lions game was acting in self-defense and will not be charged, authorities said Wednesday. “It is absolutely tragic that during all the fun and merrymaking at a Lions tailgate that two lives were lost,” Wayne County prosecutor Kym Worthy said. The 40-year-old shooter, who had a license to carry a concealed pistol, fired only after he felt threatened by Jalen Welch, 25, who displayed a gun during an argument at Eastern Market, an open-air market, Worthy said. Welch was shot in the head Sunday. The same bullet then struck and killed a 40-year-old bystander, Rayshawn Palmer, who was trying to be a peacemaker, Worthy said… Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, September 29, 2024 (6 ABC Action News) Philadelphia police say a man who shot a teenager who tried to rob him using a fake gun was acting in self-defense. The 21-year-old victim had a real gun and fired at the teen, wounding him in the leg… “Just to clarify, the victim ran up to a vehicle that was parked and the operator of that vehicle is licensed to carry,” an officer said in scanner traffic Sunday night when Philadelphia police responded… Police recovered a fake gun and a 9 mm pistol at the scene… Tallahassee, Florida, September 27, 2024 (Tallahassee Democrat) In the hours after Hurricane Helene passed through, the Tallahassee Police Department responded to a shooting at the hemp store located at 220 West Tennessee Street just before 6 p.m. Co-owner Alex Petrick said two men entered the store and approached the only employee working at the time, forcing the employee to pull out his firearm. The employee ordered the men to leave… Petrick said the suspect continued to advance toward him until the employee’s back was against the wall and he fired. Petrick said no other customers or employees were present, and the other man who entered with the suspect fled as soon as he saw the gun. TPD questioned the employee but released him after several hours, according to Petrick.
