John, tomorrow marks four years since the January 6th insurrection – a dark day when we saw the heart of American democracy attacked.

A traitorous crowd of extremists stormed the U.S. Capitol, put peoples’ lives in danger, brutalized Capitol police officers, and damaged our seat of government.

This behavior isn’t patriotic. It’s pathetic, plain and simple.

As a 17-year old, I first swore the oath to defend our Constitution (the same one so many of them betrayed) when I entered the Naval Academy. Though my time in uniform may be over, my duty to this country and our fight for American freedoms is anything but.

In fact, our fight is more important now than ever.

We can’t sit back and let right-wing extremists keep threatening our rights and our democracy. America is worth fighting for, worth defending.

I will always stand up for our democracy, defend our freedoms, and push back against right-wing extremism in every form.
