John,
With the 2024 election in the rearview mirror, you might think that our
attention is now being focused on the upcoming midterms in 2026.
And while that’s true, it’s this year’s elections that could offer us a
glimpse and some vital insight into shifting party strategies, voter
sentiment, and an early public verdict on soon-to-be President Trump.
Here's what we're watching: ⬇️
Virginia legislative special elections:
Two special elections on January 7th will determine control of the state
legislature only weeks after Virginia voters went to the polls in 2024.
While Democrats Kannan Srinivasan and JJ Singh are favored to win both of
these races, turnout is expected to be low — which means the margins could
be much tighter.
Wisconsin Supreme Court:
Less than two years after liberals won control, the Court’s ideological
balance is once again at stake. Susan Crawford, a Dane County judge, will
go up against Brad Schimel, a former Republican state attorney, in April.
This is likely to be a tight and expensive race and promises to include
the same hot-button issues — such as reproductive rights and redistricting
— that defined the race two years ago.
New Jersey & Virginia gubernatorial elections:
With both governors term-limited, these elections will offer Democrats a
chance to reset their message as they seek to rebuild their coalition.
With Trump off the ballot, these two November 4 elections especially will
play a role in providing Democrats a test to see if they can continue to
turn out their voters.
The fact of the matter is — these and all elections are
important, John.
As we learn our lessons from 2024 and move into 2025, our work toward
building a progressive tomorrow will take resources. [ [link removed] ]Can you pitch in
