Should states be able to use emergency funds to avoid laying off essential workers?

Friends,

Nearly a million government workers have already lost their jobs during the pandemic, and thousands more are at risk because of restrictions put in place by the Trump administration. The recently passed CARES Act provides some funding directly to states, but it can only be used for a narrow set of COVID-19 related expenses. As states and communities across the country scramble to address budget shortfalls resulting from the coronavirus outbreak, they may be forced to lay off critical public servants -- including police, firefighters, and teachers.

Mark Warner is fighting to make sure that doesn't happen. He's pushing hard to give state and local governments the flexibility and economic relief they need to pay essential government workers during the pandemic. He recently spoke on the Senate floor in favor of increasing funding and loosening restrictions on existing funding, so state and local governments can use it to pay essential workers.

Do you agree with Mark that states should have access to the funding needed to pay their essential workers during this time? Please take our short survey and share your opinion.
