It's time to #PutPeopleOverProfits

One year ago, my only child said to me, Mama, I think I'm going to buy land in north-central Canada. I had no idea why he was saying that. I asked him why. His response was, I think it might be the only place I can live in 20 or 30 years because of the climate crisis.

That was devastating to hear. Any parent would do anything to protect their child, including running for U.S. Senate to fight the climate crisis. No child in Iowa or anywhere, should feel like they cannot live safely.

As an advocate for abused kids and for parents in juvenile court for 20 years, I knew the time had come to advocate for all of us. Little did I know a pandemic was on its way that would dramatically impact every single one of our lives.

Seeing healthcare tied to employment when 37 million Americans have lost their jobs in a matter of months reinforces my belief that healthcare is a human right. We need a universal single-payer healthcare system NOW.

But that will require true advocacy. Our broken healthcare system exists because our local and federal representatives take large sums of money from healthcare and pharmaceutical companies, and our leaders often lack the political courage to stand up for what’s right.

Iowa deserves a Senator that puts People Over Profits. Our campaign is 100% funded by you. I am beholden only to the people.

If we want to move forward toward a just and equitable nation that values healthcare, clean water and our children’s futures - we must elect leaders who always place people over profits. Leaders who firmly believe, like I do, that in a moral and wealthy nation, everyone should lead a life of health and dignity.
