Earlier today, I was sworn in as a member of Congress and took my oath to serve my community, my state, and our great nation.

Today, my work representing the people of Virginia’s 7th District begins. It’s not going to be easy. These next few years will be challenging, but I am ready to fight for you, your family, and our future.

This country changed the trajectory of my life. Born in Soviet Ukraine during the Cold War, my family immigrated to America with less than $800 to our name, seeking freedom and opportunity. Here, I lived the American dream, so I proudly joined the military and served my country for 25 years. But my life took an unexpected turn when my brother and I reported Trump’s infamous phone attempt to extort Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy up the chain of command. That call eventually led to Trump’s first impeachment and cost us our military careers.

Years after that phone call and the end of his first term, Trump’s dangerous influence on the Republican party persisted. The GOP fully adopted his authoritarianism. So when the opportunity to continue serving arose, I decided it was time to uphold the oath I took decades ago in the Army to defend our country — and this time it would be in Congress.

With you by my side, we achieved what many didn't think was possible. We won our race and made it to this point, ready to take on Trump and his MAGA cronies directly in the House, John. Thank you.

Our fight is just beginning, and I know I have a lot of work to do. But I am here, ready to stand on the promises I ran our campaign on.

I am ready to ensure the people of Virginia, and this country, have a government that works for them, not just the wealthy.

I am ready to fight tooth and nail to defend reproductive rights and make sure our daughters and daughter’s daughters have the rights that generations of women before fought to secure.

I am ready to fight for our military communities and ensure they have the lives they deserve after selflessly serving our country.

I am committed to creating good-paying jobs, improving access to healthcare, and strengthening public education in Virginia’s 7th district and beyond.

And I am ready to do everything in my power to defend our democracy from the threat of MAGA authoritarianism in the People’s House.

I’m honored to represent you and will fight every day for the values we share. I hope you will continue to stand by my side in this fight because I cannot do it alone.
