Letter from the Mayor
Dear Washingtonians,
As we welcome the new year, we're also preparing for some winter weather headed our way. The Snow Team is already deployed, and they will be monitoring conditions and working throughout the weekend to keep our city safe. As we monitor the weather, especially the forecast for Sunday night into Monday as well as the potential for extreme cold, we will continue to share updates about our response, and we encourage residents to sign up for real-time alerts at alert.dc.gov [ [link removed] ].
If you are interested in helping neighbors after snowfall, we encourage you to register as a Snow Team Hero [ [link removed] ] through Serve DC. This program pairs volunteers with residents who need help shoveling walkways after a snowstorm. And if you're interested in helping but don't have a shovel, the program will provide one for you!

As always, let's work together to stay safe during snow and extreme cold. Check on neighbors, wear warm layers, and limit time outdoors during extreme cold. If you see someone in need of free, accessible transportation to shelter, please call the shelter hotline at (202) 399-7093 or dial 311.
Additionally, thank you to everyone who came out to the Fresh Start 5K on New Year's Day. We had a great turn out in Anacostia Park, and I know we're all ready to keep the momentum going throughout 2025.
Sincerely,
Muriel BowserFresh Start 5K
