Completing my first term as your District 1 Councilmember and serving as the 2024 Council President Pro Tem was an honor. Now entering my second term, and with the unanimous support of my colleagues, ascending to the role of Council President, I will continue leading with transparency, equity, and accountability. The new year brings new challenges that I will address with the attention to detail and thoughtfulness you have come to expect of me. I will continue moving the city forward, respecting how your tax dollars are spent.
My team and I remain committed to connecting with you, taking your input, answering your questions, and addressing your issues. My three community reps stayed busy responding to a non-stop stream of constituent phone calls and emails. Meeting you where you are in the district is still the best way to connect, and we did that at 75 community meetings, hosted 35 sessions of Connect with Your Community Representatives, Java with LaCava, and town halls, and tabled at 23 events and open markets in La Jolla and Pacific Beach. Personally, in between numerous City Council, Council Committee, and outside board meetings, I spoke at over 70 events and participated in nearly 30 media opportunities.
The City’s departments and staff never stopped working in District 1. Your participation helped focus their efforts on where to make the greatest impact. The numbers tell the story: Over 35,000 Get It Done requests; specifically, over 1,400 potholes filled, 748 streetlights fixed, and 80 tons collected in our special bulky item neighborhood pickups. We also went big in opening the Pacific Highlands Ranch Library and Fire Station 52.
What makes San Diego so great are the contributions of numerous individuals, businesses, and organizations. I was proud to single out 38 of them in 2024 with proclamations celebrating their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the City.
I cast over 900 votes on items brought to the City Council, and highlighted below is a sampling of those votes, from major pivots on policy to the nuts and bolts of running a big city.
Thank you for the privilege of being your Councilmember.
