[2] LNG (liquified natural gas) development is a bigger threat than ever to communities and climate. In mid-December the Department of Energy released a report of LNG economics and environmental concerns. The gist: planned export facilities will push already poisoned communities to the brink. Global methane emissions could skyrocket just from US exports. And shipping so much US gas overseas will cost every American hundreds of extra dollars a year as gas prices rise. We’re working to slow or better yet stop LNG export growth. That means organizing communities, local leaders and businesses, and fighting Trump’s efforts to give American natural resources away to corrupt Big Oil and Gas buddies. [3] Prepare for legal battles and organizing in states and DC. During his first term, Trump rolled back over 125 critical environmental protections, many of which were challenged in court. Now Trump aims to fast-track mining operations, deregulate industry practices, and open more public lands to extraction.
