I hope your new year is off to a good start John, and that you had a chance to recharge and connect with loved ones over the holidays.
I wanted to quickly update you on the progress of our end-of-year fundraising efforts. I’m happy to report that the surge of donations from supporters like you put us in a strong position for 2025.
This is great news — because there’s a lot of tough work ahead.
2025 is not an “off year.” As A.G. Holder often reminds us, there is no such thing as an off year in the fight for our democracy. There is much work to be done this year — including energizing voters to engage in elections across the country that will decide the control of multiple state legislatures (special elections are taking place in Virginia next week!), governorships, and at least four state supreme court seats.
We will also need to be ready to seize opportunities for redistricting reforms this year — and we must be prepared to push back against the concrete threats ahead from Donald Trump and his allies undermining the census, more attacks on the Voting Rights Act, and, of course, ongoing gerrymandering attempts.
It’s a lot. But we have a plan to get it done, we are laser-focused, and I deeply believe in the power of this organization and its supporters. I know if we stay focused and give it all we’ve got, we can move the needle on our mission to end gerrymandering — even during a Trump administration — just like we did the first time.
Thanks again — more from me soon.
