As we start the new year, I want to take a moment to reflect on where we’ve been and where we’re going next as a movement.
While there were disappointments from last year’s elections, we should not lose sight of the fact that there were also historic victories that you and this community helped make happen, John. These victories will help ensure Congress better reflects the rich diversity of our nation. I am proud of the role my organization, BRIDGE PAC, played in that effort, ranking among the top leadership PACs supporting other candidates.
Close to 20 years ago, I founded BRIDGE PAC with a clear mission to support and elect Democrats from all backgrounds and experiences because representation matters. Congress increasingly mirrors the people it serves. Over the years, we’ve seen more racial, ethnic, and religious diversity in Congress and we’ve seen more women, more LGBTQ leaders, millennials, and Gen Xers in the halls of power.
In 2024, we built on those gains by electing:
- The first Black women to represent Delaware and Maryland in the Senate, marking the first time two Black women will serve in the Senate at the same time
- The first transgender member of Congress and the first openly LGBTQ members of Congress from Texas and Washington state
- The first Korean American Senator and the first Latino Senator from Arizona
- The first Vietnamese American member of Congress from California, the first Latina representing New Jersey, the first Black person representing Oregon, the first Indian American representing Virginia, and the first Iranian American Democrat in Congress
These victories reflect the progress we’ve made, but our work is far from done. In the coming weeks, I want to focus our efforts on building a strong foundation to ensure that Democrats continue to make history in future elections.
I will share more about how you can help in this critical mission. Together, we can ensure that our government continues to reflect the diversity of our nation and the values that unite us.
Thank you,
Jim
