If you were asked to give a short answer to the question “what makes America’s government different from other countries?”, what would you say? One short answer is that America’s constitutional republic was purposely created to be dramatically different from other European countries and their forms of government in the 1700’s. Our government is defined by a constitution that features a unique separation of powers, checks and balances, the rule of law, and the right to vote for every citizen 18 years of age and older.
However, the question of “What is election integrity?” is not as easily answered. Simply put, “It depends on which state.” First recall that Federal elections are administered by State and local governments, and the specifics of how elections are conducted differ between states. The Constitution and laws of the United States grant states wide latitude in how they administer elections.
