Hi friend --

"The President must cease his pattern of reprisal and retaliation against the public servants who are working to keep Americans safe, particularly during this time of global emergency."

That's from Nancy Pelosi's official statement on Donald Trump's late-Friday-evening dismissal of State Department Inspector General Steve Linick. Trump fired Linick because he was investigating misconduct by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The firing is part of what Pelosi calls a "dangerous pattern of retaliation against the patriotic public servants charged with conducting oversight on behalf of the American people."

House Democrats led by Pelosi passed the HEROES Act, which includes measures to bolster Inspectors General and the power of oversight within the government, just hours before Linick's firing. Clearly, Trump is trying to eliminate as much oversight as he can before Democrats can protect vulnerable Inspectors General that might hold him accountable.

Republicans have allowed Trump to get away with a lot so far, but Nancy Pelosi isn't letting him off the hook for this. Let us know if you think the House Speaker is right to demand the president stop his streak of political retaliation -- tell us now:
