Police were called to the 12900 block of Willard Street, just near the 170 Freeway and Roscoe Boulevard, at around 4:40 p.m. on Saturday after a female victim was found in the area suffering from major head trauma, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was listed in grave condition until she died on Monday, police said. During investigation, detectives were able to identify the suspect as Panorama City resident Edgar Gutierrez. They say that he and the victim had been dating for nearly two years and were involved in some sort of altercation outside of a home in the area. According to police, Gutierrez entered a car in the area while the woman was standing near the driver's side door. He attempted to drive away as she was holding onto the car, they noted. It was then that he allegedly accelerated as he drove through residential streets "making violent maneuvers to force the victim from the car," police said. Eventually she was thrown from the car and struck the pavement, at which point Gutierrez fled the scene, police said. The FBI said it is investigating the attack early Wednesday in the city’s famed French Quarter as a terrorist act and does not believe the driver acted alone. Investigators found multiple improvised explosive devices, including two pipe bombs that were concealed within coolers and wired for remote detonation, according to a Louisiana State Police intelligence bulletin obtained by the Associated Press. The bulletin, relying on information gathered soon after the attack, also said surveillance footage showed three men and a woman placing one of the devices, but federal officials did not immediately confirm that detail and it wasn’t clear who the individuals in the video were or what connection they may have had to the attack. The rampage turned festive Bourbon Street into macabre mayhem. In addition to the dead, more than 30 people were injured. Pedestrians fled to safety inside nightclubs and restaurants. One man watched in horror as authorities placed a tarp over his friend’s body after she was hit and thrown some 30 feet (9 meters). A photo posted by the police department shows the damaged patrol vehicle. The back half of the car is crumpled in on itself, the windows are shattered and the patrol car was physically turned off the road by the force of the crash. “The picture is horrific, and we are so grateful tonight that our officer is expected to be okay,” the police department said on Facebook. “Looking at the damage… it’s hard to believe. Please — stop drinking and driving.” The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and the Colorado State Patrol is investigating the crash, which shut down the interstate for more than three hours, police said. KTLA 5 Metro equips LA bus fleet with protective barriers for drivers Metro has finalized the installation of barriers on its entire bus fleet that fully enclose drivers for their protection -- a move prompted by a rise in assaults against bus operators, officials announced Tuesday. A total of 2,105 buses received the shatterproof, tempered glass barriers, constructed of steel and laminated, low-reflectivity material. The design and fabrication were completed in-house at Metro's Central Maintenance Facility in downtown Los Angeles, with most installation work done by staff at the operating divisions. Metro used about 55,000 square feet of the material, enough to cover an entire football field, officials said. In April, Metro's board of directors approved an emergency procurement motion to accelerate the installation. On Monday, Metro installed the last barrier -- making the transit agency the first in the nation to retrofit its entire bus fleet with such protection. The barriers add an extra layer of security for drivers from physical attacks such as punching, grabbing or thrown objects, and from being spit on. Some people may also experience shortness of breath, warm, flushed skin, red, watery eyes, and eye pain.
