Dear John,

Happy New Year from all of us at Womankind Worldwide. As we step into 2025, we reflect on a year of both extraordinary challenges and profound hope.

Across the world, feminist movements and women’s rights organisations are powering change. In pursuit of joy, choice and dignity for all, courageous activists are showing up time and time again to do the work for liberation and justice.

Activists like J ([link removed]) udith defending land rights in Uganda. ([link removed]) Or Wadzanayi who fosters connection and community in her work as a women’s rights defender in Zimbabwe ([link removed]) . Or Horia who is campaigning on women’s rights in exile from her native Afghanistan in the UK ([link removed]) .
The past year has tested the work of these determined activists even further:
* In Afghanistan, the gender apartheid has worsened ([link removed]) , with women and girls losing more of their rights under Taliban rule.

* In Kenya, femicide cases sharply increased ([link removed]) , highlighting the pervasive violence women face.

* Across the globe, anti-rights agendas gained traction, undermining equality and justice.

It is easy to feel disheartened when we see hard-won gains in women’s rights being eroded. But even amidst these challenges, there is hope—and you have been a vital part of creating that hope. With your support, Womankind and our partners have achieved remarkable impact over the past year:
* Defending women’s land rights in Uganda. ([link removed])
* Supporting women with disabilities in Nepal to heal from violence. ([link removed])
* Amplifying the voices of Afghan women and ways we can extend support. ([link removed])
* Empowering girls in Kenya to stand up against sexual harassment. ([link removed])

We know that the most impactful thing we can do right now to advance gender equality is to resource, fund and nourish these feminist movements and women’s rights organisations.

In 2023/24, we delivered 90 projects and grants, including 71 flexible grants through key funds such as the Movement Strengthening Fund and Her Voice Fund. This was also the first year we funded partners in Afghanistan, beginning our new Afghanistan Strategy.

Your generosity has made this work possible. Through your donations and commitment, you have helped strengthen communities, fuel vital programmes, and ensure that the voices of women and girls are heard.

We are deeply, profoundly grateful for your commitment and belief in our vision. Thank you for standing with us in solidarity.

Together, let us make 2025 a year of action, collaboration and progress.
With gratitude,

Diana Njuguna & Disha Sughand

RECAP: Watch our Everyday Feminism video launched on International Women's Day 2024

Inspired by Laura Bates’ Everyday Sexism, we spotlighted five feminists from Kenya, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, South Africa and Nepal who are committed to making a difference in their communities and contributing to a gender equal world. The campaign demonstrates that acts of feminism, however small – especially at a time of global setbacks on women’s rights – can contribute to change.
