John,
We believe in the American dream—a land of opportunity for those willing to work hard and contribute. That’s why we support immigration policies that welcome talented individuals from around the world. But we must call out billionaires like Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy for exploiting these systems to cut costs and sell out American workers.
This debate is not a new one. In 2007, Bernie Sanders and Bill Gates
had public disagreements over a key immigration bill. Gates supported expanding the guest worker program, while Sanders opposed it—not to block immigration, but to prevent billionaires from exploiting the system to suppress wages and maximize profits. Sanders focused on protecting both American workers and immigrants, pushing for a system that ensures opportunity for all.
Now, Musk and Ramaswamy are pushing a policy to bring more "high-skilled" labor into the U.S., but their motives aren’t about strengthening our workforce. Musk is hiring foreign engineers for $400,000–$500,000 jobs, but paying them less than 20% of what an American worker would earn. It’s a calculated move to slash labor costs and boost profits, all while using political clout to game the system.
And who’s cheering them on? Donald Trump. After years of claiming to fight for American workers, Trump has flipped, now praising the very visa programs billionaires use to undercut wages. He even admits to using them in his own businesses. This isn’t about “America First”—it’s about billionaires first.
We can support an immigration system that uplifts everyone—allowing Americans to thrive while welcoming those who want to contribute to this great land. But we cannot give billionaires free reign to abuse this system for personal gain. It’s time to fight back against corporate greed. Stand with us as we hold Musk, Trump, and their allies accountable for undermining American workers.
