Trump falsely suggests NOLA attacker was an immigrant
With the investigation ongoing and the identity of the US-born assailant in the tragic New Year's Eve terror attack in New Orleans definitively confirmed, the MAGA cult leader took to his social media platform and thumb-smashed an intentionally misleading post, suggesting the slain attacker was an immigrant and — of course — falsely accusing Democrats of not taking immigration seriously. Trump is making it beyond clear that we're going to need everything in our proverbial toolbox to fight back against the avalanche of outrageous misinformation that he and Elon will be pushing out to the public over the next four years.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Jack Smith pulls surprising move in Trump's federal case
Special counsel Jack Smith was compelled to dismiss the stolen classified documents prosecution against Donald Trump — due to the Department of Justice's absurd, long-standing policy not to prosecute a sitting president — so his latest move, transferring the relevant Mar-a-Lago documents to federal prosecutors in Florida raised a few eyebrows. Alas, there's good reason. Trump was not the only criminally indicted co-defendant in the stolen classified documents case. Two of the MAGA cult leader's accomplices, Carlos De Oliveira and Walt Nauta, are still under indictment and will not enjoy the legal cover provided by the Oval Office.

Sister District fights to take back our state houses
Sister District: If we’re going to take back power from Trump and the GOP, we’re going to need to build progressive power at EVERY level — local, state, and national. Sister District is on the front lines building the grassroots networks and infrastructure to win back our country from the GOP. Sister District’s efforts helped Democrats break the GOP supermajority in the North Carolina House and Wisconsin Senate while keeping control of the Pennsylvania House and Minnesota Senate — and their next targets are critical 2025 races in Virginia. Will you chip in to Sister District and help take back our statehouses from the GOP?
US Army veteran who killed 15 in New Orleans attack was inspired by the Islamic State group
Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, a US citizen and Army veteran from Texas who drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year's revelers in New Orleans, killing 15 people, had posted videos to social media hours before the carnage saying he was inspired by the Islamic State group and expressing a desire to kill, President Biden said. The FBI said it was investigating the attack, in which the driver steered around a police blockade and slammed into revelers before being shot dead by police, as a terrorist act and do not believe Jabbar acted alone. Investigators found guns and what appeared to be an improvised explosive device in the vehicle — which bore the flag of the Islamic State group — along with other explosive devices elsewhere in the city’s famed French Quarter. The rampage turned festive Bourbon Street into a macabre scene of maimed victims, bloodied bodies, and pedestrians fleeing for safety inside nightclubs and restaurants. In addition to the dead, dozens of people were hurt.

Biden announces Liz Cheney to receive Presidential Citizens Medal
That former Rep. Liz Cheney has found herself on this year's Presidential Citizens Medal recipient list says far more about the sad, sorry state of the Republican Party BOTH parties than it does about her "heroic" commitment to the rule of law. The honor is typically awarded to citizens of the United States of America who have performed exemplary deeds of service for their country or their fellow citizens. In Cheney's case, she refused to look the other way or sweep under the rug Donald Trump's heinous, treasonous actions on Jan. 6, 2021, a move which eventually ended her political career (for now) and cast her out of the GOP as some sort of unforgivable pariah. That Cheney happened to be right on the sole issue of holding the MAGA cult leader accountable for inciting a failed insurrection and attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 election does nothing to excuse her otherwise lousy track record as a right-wing, dyed-in-the-wool, GOP congresswoman. We don't give out awards for wearing seat belts or waiting for WALK signs to cross the street, so let's not get carried away celebrating one random Republican's baseline commitment to the US Constitution.

One dead after Tesla Cybertruck packed with firework mortars, camp fuel cannisters explodes outside Trump hotel in Las Vegas
One person died and seven others were injured after a Tesla Cybertruck packed with fireworks and gas canisters exploded outside Donald Trump’s Las Vegas hotel on Wednesday, with officials saying they were investigating potential motives for the incident. Las Vegas police said that authorities knew the identity of the person who rented the truck using the Turo app in Colorado, but were not releasing the name until investigators determine if it was the same person who died (inside the vehicle). The vehicle arrived in Las Vegas at about 7:30am then drove about an hour later into the valet area of the Trump International Hotel, where it sat for 15 to 20 seconds before the explosion occurred.
Fire breaks out at New Orleans terror suspect's Airbnb
Flames engulfed the Airbnb used by the slain New Orleans terror suspect on Wednesday morning — two hours after 15 people were fatally mowed down on the city’s famous Bourbon Street. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill told NBC News the suspect, 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, rented a home and used it as a site to make explosive devices along with alleged accomplices. A house fire at the rental broke out in the St. Roch neighborhood around 5am and “dozens of people” were forced to evacuate, the Times-Picayune reported. Jabbar’s apparent co-conspirators are yet to be identified or arrested, and their alleged explosive devices — said to have been placed around the city — were defused before they could explode. Jabbar, a US Army veteran from Texas, was gunned down by police after he rammed a Ford pickup truck into dozens of New Year’s Eve revelers who were still enjoying the night around 3:30am local time. Before he was shot dead, authorities said Jabbar opened fire at police and injured two New Orleans cops. His truck, a Turo rental, was discovered to be carrying an ISIS flag — but the FBI has yet to determine officially what his motive was.

Earthjustice is Ready for the Fights Ahead
Earthjustice: There is no organization quite like Earthjustice. As a nonprofit environmental law organization, Earthjustice forces government agencies to protect species like manatees and wolves. They go to court to stop oil drilling in the Arctic. They partner with frontline communities to reduce toxic, cancer-causing pollution. Earthjustice even lobbies Congress to pass critical climate legislation. The law is the most powerful tool we have to secure a healthy and sustainable future for all. And polluting industries and the politicians in their pockets know it – that’s why they’re scheming to dodge and even dismantle the nation’s bedrock environmental laws. While corporations use their high-paid lawyers to roll back regulations and poison our air, Earthjustice is on the front lines fighting to make sure they don't get their way. Our clean air, our clean water, and our sustainable future hinge on Earthjustice's legal team winning big fights behind the scenes — but they don't have the war chest of billionaires to do it with. That’s why a group of Earthjustice supporters has come together to create the Rapid Response Legal Fund, which will be MATCHING your donation $2:$1, tripling your impact from December 26-31! Will you chip in to Earthjustice and help them in their mission?
Trump says he will make phone calls to drum up support for Mike Johnson ahead of speaker vote
One day after GOP Rep. Chip Roy said Mike Johnson doesn't have the votes to retain the House speakership, Donald Trump vowed to throw his weight around on behalf of the embattled speaker, as yet another embarrassing power struggle in Congress could derail the MAGA cult leader's agenda before he even takes office. So nice to know grown-ups like, uh, Donald are stepping in to settle even more Republican House playground scuffles. Bodes well for 2025 and beyond!
