ASMFC Public Hearings on Recreational Measures Setting Process
Public hearings have been scheduled to gather input on changes to the process for setting recreational management measures (bag, size, and season limits) for bluefish, summer flounder, scup, and black sea bass. The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council (MAFMC) and Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) are considering identical options through a MAFMC framework and an ASMFC addenda. Although the Council’s framework development process does not include public hearings, all public comments provided during the ASMFC comment period will be considered by both groups prior to final action.
The draft addendum is available HERE. Recreational management measures will be implemented in 2026 and beyond.
The ASMFC will hold five public hearings to gather public comment. The public is welcome to participate in any meeting. A recording of the presentation will be available on the ASMFC YouTube page in early January for those unable to attend a hearing.
