Dear John,

The numbers are still being crunched, but 2024 looks set to be declared the hottest year on record. In the struggle against climate change we have to make 2025 count. And here in the UK we actually have the chance to stop new oil and gas drilling for good.

The UK government has paused making decisions on new oil and gas fields while it examines how to regulate new drilling – and it’s asking us, the public, what we think should happen.

Please sign our urgent petition before we hand it in on 7 January – and ask the government to stand on the side of people over the interests of oil and gas bosses.

From flooding here in the UK, to heatwaves, wildfires and drought across the globe, climate change supercharged extreme weather in 2024.

Every country has a role to play in tackling the crisis. And if we create enough pressure during this government consultation, we could see the UK take the decisive leap of moving away from fossil fuels in 2025. It’s hard to believe, but this moment is very much within our grasp.

We’ve teamed up with organisations like Uplift and Global Justice Now to make as much noise as possible. So please take a minute to add your voice and sign the petition.

This is an amazing opportunity right at the start of 2025. Let’s make it a year to remember.

Best wishes,

Tony
