John,
Social Security works―period.
It’s a simple, universal system that protects against loss of income due to old age and disability, and protects dependent family members in the event of an untimely death.
But not everything is as simple. For women, discrimination can mean a lifetime of lower wages, which means lower Social Security benefits in retirement. The Equal Rights Amendment would correct that.
In 2020, Virginia became the 38th state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment―meaning that the ERA has now reached the threshold to become the 28th Amendment.
But the Office of the Archivist of the United States has refused to publish the ERA―substituting its own legal judgment for the plain text of the Constitution, and leaving the ERA in legal limbo!
President Biden must direct the Archivist to publish the ERA before Trump takes office! Take action today!
The ERA would clarify, once and for all, that sex discrimination in employment and wages, reproductive rights, insurance, Social Security, education, and more is a violation of our constitutional rights.
Just because Donald Trump won this year’s election does not mean that the fight for equal rights is over. President Biden must take action before January 20th!
Thank you,
Michael Phelan Social Security Works
