Hi John

Today is the International Day for Biological Diversity and we're calling
on governments to take urgent action on human population. Our message is
simple: continued mass extinction is inevitable unless we address human
numbers.

The UN Convention on Biological Diversity is the key international
agreement protecting global biodiversity. Following an initial set of
targets to be met by 2020, governments are now negotiating the next stage
of the Convention’s work, known as the Post-2020 Framework. So far the
negotiations have not addressed human population - it's vital that they do
if the new framework is to have any chance of success.

Our Director Robin has already written to the environment ministers [3] of
more than 40 nations urging them to ensure that the new framework includes
positive, choice-based population solutions.

Please join our call by writing to your government today - we've made it
easy for you by launching an e-action that allows you to submit your
message in two quick and simple steps.

WRITE TO YOUR GOVERNMENT [4]

Thank you for taking action. Together we can keep the pressure on
policymakers to ramp up efforts to protect our planet's precious diversity
of life.

Best wishes,

Alistair Currie
