What we learned and where we're going in 2025.

John --

Matt here again! I oversee our communications operation, as well.

What Went Well

In 2024, especially as we drove towards the election, we had a large amount of content production. We regularly put out endorsement announcements, and we were able to create slates to appeal to people interested in certain geographies, backgrounds, and even certain types of races (e.g., School Board).

We streamlined our approval processes to get material out faster, and we launched several successful grassroots fundraising campaigns.

Finally, we revamped our website. This included a refresh of our values, which went through a process involving our state teams. It also made it more dynamic and focused on getting people to take action to advance Forward goals.

Lessons Learned

While we had a lot of successes, we also learned some lessons we plan to take into 2025.

First, people respond to people. Communications around abstract reform concepts didn’t perform nearly as well as stories of our volunteers, state leads, and candidates fighting for reform. We need to lean more on content creation—especially video—featuring Forward members.

Second, we need to make our social media more engaging. Rather than posting information, we need to put out more polls, questions, and conversation starters. We need our online presence to welcome people in and show them that we value their opinion. That’s one of the reasons you’ll see a link for feedback in each of these emails!

Finally, we need to create more templates for both internal and external use. The form doesn’t matter as much as what is said in the content, so we should make it easy for people to put out branded material.

These are our thoughts from 2024, but we want to hear from you! Please head to this link and fill out your thoughts on lessons learned, the direction the party should head in, and projects we should tackle! We will read them all, and we will highlight our top 10, along with the people who submitted them, in early January as our New Years Resolutions.

2025 Projects

  • Making it easier for our membership to create content that we feature
