*Texas Secretary of State: Texas Starts 2025 with 2.9 Million Business Entities*
The number has almost doubled in the last 10 years.
AUSTIN — Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson today announced that Texas begins the year with more than 2.9 million entities actively registered with the agency to conduct business in Texas.
As of January 1, 2025, Texas has 2,928,688 registered business entities — 125,329 more than last year.
“The economic climate in Texas continues to be strong as entrepreneurs grow and create businesses in our state and more out-of-state entities want to expand to Texas,” said Secretary Nelson.
The total includes both businesses incorporated in Texas and out-of-state entities conducting business in the Lone Star State. The largest classification is in-state, limited liability companies, of which there are 2 million.
The growth over the last year is consistent with what the agency has seen in the last decade. Since the beginning of 2015, the number of active business entities in the state has almost doubled, going from 1.47 million to 2.93 million entities.
“As Texas continues to grow and attract more economic development, the Secretary of State’s office is committed to providing quality service to all those who file with our agency,” said Secretary Nelson.
Between business filings, processing reports, website transactions, phone calls and emails, the Secretary of State’s office had more than 12 million interactions with the business community in fiscal year 2024 — up from 6.7 million interactions 10 years ago.
