Defender,
There’s no getting around it. This has been a bad week for wildlife in Alaska.
The Trump administration announced plans to finalize a rule that will allow a range of cruel and barbaric hunting methods on national preserve lands in Alaska. We expect that this regulation will allow sport hunters to bait, trap and snare bears, and kill black bears and cubs and wolves and pups in their dens. It would also permit the killing of defenseless caribou from boats as they swim across rivers in national preserves.
This, Friend of Defenders, is nothing short of an all-out war on wildlife.
Your urgent donation to Defenders of Wildlife puts you at the forefront of the fight to save the wildlife you love – before it’s too late.
To make matters worse, the administration also announced a plan to abandon existing federal hunting regulations for brown bears on the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. This reversal would allow hunters to kill brown bears at bait stations, an activity never before permitted on the refuge.
In both cases, the federal government is turning its back on bears, wolves and other vulnerable wildlife and leaving these animals subject to aggressive state hunting regulations designed to reduce predator populations. If they’re not stopped, they’ll set deadly precedents for other states to follow.
Allowing the killing of bear cubs and wolf pups in their dens is barbaric and inhumane. Defenders is exploring all options to halt this deadly assault on wildlife - including going to court - to stop these appalling actions.
With these animals’ lives on the line, will you make sure we succeed?
For the wildlife that depend on you and me, please – give to keep them safe.
Thanks for all you do.
Sincerely,
|
