Dear John,
Two and a half years ago, there were so many things I didn’t know.
I didn’t know I’d be working for the ICRC. I didn’t know I’d be stepping into homes where children run up to me with questions about my "big glasses" and my "big red cross." I didn’t know I’d be sitting in a coffee shop with a woman who wears her missing husband’s clothes to keep them warm for his return.
But here I am today, knowing so much more about humanity and humility.
I thought I would be helping others. And I have. But what I didn’t expect was how much they would give me in return — faith in courage, in dignity, and in the enduring kindness of strangers.
Today, I am asking you to be one of them.
There is a family right now waiting for help. Maybe it’s a mother with five young children who need support to stay warm. Maybe it’s a woman wearing her missing husband’s jacket, hoping he will return home. Maybe it’s someone whose name I do not yet know, but whose story will stay with me for ever.
John, thank you for being part of these stories.
Your generosity fuels everything we do. It’s what makes it possible for my colleagues to bring in much needed medical aid, to rebuild water systems and critical infrastructure, and for our teams to support families of missing people.
If you can, please make another gift today to support this vital work and the people we serve. Your gift becomes part of their story. Part of the legacy of kindness that endures even after conflict ends.
We hope we can count on your support.
