"We're going to rip your face off" in visa fight, Steve Bannon warns Elon Musk
Really seems like Trump's coalition of super racist white nationalists and run-of-the-mill racist corporate vampires are getting along nicely and in no way will hamstring or paralyze the MAGA cult leader's incoming administration with incompatible, competing interests. [RETWEET THAT!]

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Long-time strategist dishes on how Democrats can compete in red states in 2025 and beyond
Brian Tyler Cohen sat down for an interview with longtime Democratic strategist and former Pete Buttigieg senior adviser Lis Smith to talk about what Democrats can do to win tough elections in red states. Let's face it, there are a LOT of red states, and we've got to become more competitive in at least some of them if we're going to enact real change that aligns with the party's progressive values.

Ten dead after car plows into crowd at New Orleans New Year’s Day attack: At least 30 rushed to hospital
Ten people are dead after a car slammed into a crowd in New Orleans' popular Bourbon Street during New Year’s Day celebrations. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell described the incident as a "terrorist attack," urging residents to stay away from the area as it was still an active scene. The FBI said an improvised explosive device was found with the suspect, who appeared to be dead on the scene. New Orleans Superintendent of Police Anne Kirkpatrick said that the perpetrator exhibited "very intentional behavior" by slamming into the crowd and that it was not a DUI, adding that the man shot at police officers after he crashed his vehicle, leaving two officers injured.

Washington Post top political reporters flee for The Atlantic as part of ongoing staff exodus
Two more of The Washington Post’s top political journalists have left to join The Atlantic — as the storied newspaper continues to bleed talent at the close of a tumultuous year. Maybe Jeff Bezos' nakedly political decision to deny the paper's editorial board a presidential endorsement in October wasn't such as good idea after all...

Virginia man arrested as agents find largest cache of "finished explosive devices" in FBI history
Brad Spafford of Smithfield, Virginia, was arrested after federal authorities found a cache of homemade explosive devices, some of which were marked as "lethal," at his home, marking the largest seizure of finished explosive devices in FBI history, officials said. FBI agents found "a stockpile of more than 150 homemade improvised explosive devices, assessed as pipe bombs," during a search of his home, a detention memo says. "Some of these devices were marked 'lethal.' Most of the devices were found in a detached garage, where the FBI also found tools and manufacturing materials, including homemade fuses and pieces of PVC pipe," it says. "Several additional apparent pipe bombs were found in a backpack in the home’s bedroom, completely unsecured." The phrase "#nolivesmatter" was written outside the backpack, prosecutors said. No Lives Matter follows an extremist ideology and promotes mass killings, criminal activity, and targeted attacks and has historically encouraged followers to engage in self-harm or animal abuse, the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness said. The investigation into Spafford began last year when a source told authorities that he had disfigured his hand while working with a homemade explosive device, officials said. Spafford lives at the home with two young children.

US Capitol attack fugitive seeks asylum in Canada and hopes for Trump pardon
Antony Vo, a 32-year-old American, absconded after being sentenced to prison for his role in the MAGA cult leader's insurrection at the US Capitol and is now seeking political asylum in Canada, as he hopes for a pardon when Trump, also a convicted felon, returns to the White House. Vo was sentenced to nine months behind bars and ordered to report to a federal prison on June 14, 2024, but instead he fled to Canada. In refugee claim documents, Vo said the riot was "a peaceful protest" that was "subverted as part of a domestic regime-change operation to politically assassinate Trump and his supporters." Vo said that he had also tried to seek asylum in Argentina, Mexico, El Salvador, Vietnam, Belarus, and Russia, and added that "people have really taken good care of me" in Canada.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts warns judicial independence is under threat
Chief Justice John Roberts issued a defense Tuesday of judicial independence, which he said is under threat from intimidation, disinformation, and the prospect of public officials defying court orders. Oh, for f*ck's sake, ya think? Maybe billionaire sugar daddies showering Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito with lavish, off-the-book gifts and luxury travel for years on end might have something to do with that? Or an incoming president whose contempt for the rule of law is so extreme he literally had to win back the White House to avoid going to prison?
Elon Musk changes his name to Kekius Maximus on nüTwitter
The world's richest man-toddler has sparked speculation after changing his name on his social media platform X to "Kekius Maximus." The tech mogul — and close and probably very annoying confidant of Donald Trump — offered no immediate explanation for the ridiculous name or his new profile image which depicts the character Pepe the Frog — a meme that has been used by far-right groups. "Kekius" appears to be a Latinisation of "kek," a word roughly equivalent to "laugh out loud" popularized by gamers but now often associated with the quite problematic alt right. So very weird.
