As if life in the time of coronavirus isn’t confusing enough, powerful right-wing groups are teaming up with the Trump campaign and the White House to organize a network of “extremely pro-Trump” doctors to tell us it’s safe to rapidly reopen the economy, despite what prominent epidemiologists and the CDC say.

The Associated Press ran that Trump “Spin Doctors” story Tuesday night based on audio obtained by CMD, and it has since been picked up by more than 7,300 local and national media outlets across the country, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Democracy Now!, MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Thanks to CMD’s work, the public is now forewarned that when the Right trots out doctors to defend Trump’s erratic and incompetent response to COVID-19, it’s all part of a well-orchestrated PR ploy coordinated with the Trump campaign.

This cynical “Spin Doctors” idea was floated on a May 11 conference call organized by CNP Action, the political affiliate of the pro-GOP Council for National Policy, a secretive powerhouse that ties together corporate, evangelical, and Radical Right players – including the leaders of Koch Machine groups like the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and the State Policy Network.

CNP Action has worked hand-in-hand with ALEC and the Tea Party Patriots to promote a patently unsafe plan to reopen business prematurely and use the national health crisis to advance a corporate agenda of more tax cuts, deregulation, and limited access to justice.
