Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib are duly-elected members of
Congress, and serve as part of the voice of the greatest nation on earth.
It is wholly unacceptable for one of our allies to ban them from entering
a nation purely because of a political disagreement.

If you hadn’t seen the news, at the urging of Donald Trump, Israel
officially barred Representatives Tlaib and Omar ahead of their planned
trip — where they had scheduled a variety of visits with both Israeli and
Palestinian civic groups.

This action is an insult to the United States of America. Rashida and
Ilhan represent the will of the American people, and a democracy that
provides billions of dollars in aid to Israel every year.

Let me be extremely clear: if a Republican had been barred access to
Israel, I would be just as furious about their denial. Because this isn’t
about partisanship — it’s about respecting the American democracy, and an
international order based on diplomacy.

Especially given how much support we provide to Israel each year, members
of Congress ought to have a basic oversight right to visit Israel, see
conditions on the ground, and learn about the situation. Denying that
based on disagreement is fundamentally undemocratic.
