Dear
Friend,
As 2024 comes to a close, we reflect on the progress we’ve made and the urgent work that lies ahead. Especially with the uncertainty of federal funding for epilepsy research, CURE Epilepsy’s gap-filling investments are more critical than ever. We remain relentless in our mission: to fund breakthrough research that transforms lives.

CURE Epilepsy has always been a convener; we know that working together is the fastest way to make progress. That’s why I’m especially proud of gatherings we initiated this year in two of our areas of deep focus, Post-Traumatic Epilepsy (PTE) ([link removed]) and Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) ([link removed]) .

Attendees at the International Conference on Post-Traumatic Epilepsy in Milan, Italy

In May we hosted the first ever International Conference on Post-Traumatic Epilepsy in Milan, Italy. The event brought together a diverse community of people with epilepsy and researchers from around the world to discuss scientific advances, explore challenges, and drive the creation of promising new treatments and preventative therapies.

Attendees of the SUDEP Risk Assessment and Prevention workshop

In October we partnered with the Epilepsy Foundation and the Cameron Boyce Foundation to host a SUDEP Risk Assessment and Prevention workshop in New York City. For two days, over 20 SUDEP experts discussed what is needed to develop refined SUDEP risk assessment tools. With actionable information already available in registries, researchers prioritized potential risk factors that warrant additional study, as well as identified missing information and new experimental endpoints that could provide clues about SUDEP risk.

Important research summits like these are only possible with your support. On the final day of 2024, we invite you to please join us by making a gift to CURE Epilepsy now ([link removed]) . Together, we can drive progress forward, bringing hope and opportunities for a brighter future to everyone impacted by epilepsy

Let’s step into 2025 with hope and purpose, continuing to drive scientific knowledge and progress until we live in a world without epilepsy.

With immense gratitude and hope,

Beth Lewin Dean
