Dear Resident,

I trust you and your family continue to stay safe and well. Since my last E-News, the Government has started to ease the lockdown, asking everyone to stay alert and so save lives. Everyone must continue to stay at home unless necessary for specific reasons, namely, for work where you cannot work from home, to go to the shops that are open, to exercise or spend time outdoors for recreation, and for any medical need, including to provide care for another person. At this stage, however you still cannot go to another person’s home to visit, unless there is a specific medical need.

While I appreciate how difficult this is for everyone, the Government is looking at how it can facilitate greater contact with close family and friends and will make further announcements in the coming weeks.

As you can appreciate, this is a fast-moving situation and the advice is regularly updated. You should visit www.gov.uk/coronavirus for all the latest information.

Frequently Asked Questions

There are a limited number of things you can now do that you could not do before:

spend time outdoors – for example sitting and enjoying the fresh air, picnicking, or sunbathing
meet one other person from a different household outdoors - following social distancing guidelines
exercise outdoors as often as you wish - following social distancing guidelines
use outdoor sports courts or facilities, such as a tennis or basketball court, or golf course or go fishing – with members of your household or one other person but staying 2 metres apart
go to a garden centre

As with before, you cannot:

visit friends and family in their homes
exercise in an indoor sports court, gym or leisure centre, or go swimming in a public pool
use an outdoor gym or playground
visit a private or ticketed attraction
gather in a group of more than two (excluding members of your own household), except for a few specific exceptions set out in law (for work, funerals, house moves, supporting the vulnerable, in emergencies and to fulfil legal obligations)

If you are showing coronavirus symptoms, or if you or any of your household are self-isolating, you should stay at home - this is critical to staying safe and saving lives.

You should stay at home as much as possible, but you may now leave your home for work, where you cannot work from home.

Every day I hear many good news stories, so often about a neighbour, a friend, a volunteer or a worker, all who go above and beyond to help in tricky situations or just help to make us smile.

My Local Heroes

Today I want to give a ‘shout out’ to all our Refuse Collectors who, over the last couple of weeks have worked so hard to empty all our brown bins. The recent lockdown has rekindled our enthusiasm for gardening resulting in many of us had very full brown bins. Thank you to all our Refuse Collectors for always being so cheerful.

On the recommendation of the Prime Minister, The Queen has approved a well deserved knighthood for fundraising veteran Cpt. Tom Moore.

Transport Secretary Announces New Ways of Travel

Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP has announced there will be significant investments in transport to ensure we can all socially distance on public transport without the roads clogging up. To aid this Grant has proposed ‘pop up’ cycle routes to help people cycle for work and pleasure.

PLEASE do let me know where you think there should be more or improved cycle routes across Erewash. I will then let Grant know what Erewash cyclists need and are best placed to know what will work.

Office update
