After a 50-year career as a sign language interpreter, Sherlea was ready to enjoy her retirement. She had carefully saved and planned for this new chapter of her life.

But everything changed when a devastating scam wiped out her savings, leaving her with only $1,300 a month in Social Security – far too little to cover her Medicare premiums, food, and housing.

With the help of one of our counselors, Sherlea accessed the Medicare Savings Program, Medicare Part D Low-Income Subsidy, and other benefits. These programs saved her $200 each month, allowing her to afford groceries, her asthma inhaler, and even batteries for her hearing aids.
