It’s hard to believe that another year has gone by, but 2025 is right around the corner. We had a busy and productive year here at ConservAmerica and are looking forward to what the new year, with a new President and a new Congress, will bring.
The year ends with the unfortunate passing of President Jimmy Carter. President Carter has been widely recognized for his dedication to environmental conservation ([link removed]) , and though we may not have always agreed with his stances, we have certainly always respected and admired his passion. May he rest in peace.
Each year we recognize Congressional Conservation Champions ([link removed]) at our annual awards reception. This year, we honored Roosevelt Conservation Caucus (RCC) members Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK), Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), and Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-MT) for their work and leadership in the energy and conservation space.
The RCC is a bicameral group of lawmakers who are focused on advancing conservative solutions to our nation’s energy, environmental, and conservation challenges. We continue to host monthly meetings with the caucus and are excited to work with members of the new Congress to continue advancing common-sense solutions.
December may not have brought the permitting reform we have been advocating ([link removed]) for so long, but it did bring the passage of Good Samaritan ([link removed]) legislation! The Good Samaritan Remediation of Abandoned Hardrock Mines Act (Good Sam) creates a pilot permitting program to enable not-for-profit cleanup efforts to move forward while ensuring Good Samaritans have the skills and resources to comply with federal oversight. Good Sam has been one of our long-standing priorities ([link removed]) , and we were so pleased to finally see it head to the President’s desk.
We are thankful for a great year filled with meaningful conversations ([link removed]) and insightful commentary ([link removed]) . Our mission remains focused on offering conservative, common-sense solutions to today’s environmental and energy challenges. In the words of ([link removed]) ConservAmerica fellow Alina Clough, we can either see ourselves as intruders into a landscape that is better off without us or as a necessary part of it.
We thank you all for your support ([link removed]) this past year; we could not do this important work without you. We hope you all are enjoying this holiday season, and we wish you a safe and happy New Year.
