Wishing You a Happy New Year

Governor Polis stands and smiles for a photo in front of a sign that reads "Welcome to Colorful Colorado."

2024 was a year of incredible progress for Colorado. We took bold steps to lay the foundation for an affordable, livable, sustainable Colorado, taking significant strides towards our BOLD 5 goals. We continue to lead the way and build a Colorado for All where every person can live, work, thrive, and reach their full potential.

Here’s a snapshot of what we achieved in 2024:

🏠 Creating More Housing Coloradans Can Afford

In 2024, my administration continued to prioritize lowering costs and expanding affordable housing options near transit and job centers while saving Coloradans money by:
  • Reducing regulations for homeowners who want to build Accessory Dwelling Units and removing outdated occupancy limits
  • Supporting housing near transportation and discouraging frivolous lawsuits that delay housing projects
  • Allowing seniors to downsize while keeping tax benefits
  • Cutting unnecessary parking requirements that drive up housing costs
  • Planning for sustainable, affordable growth for future generations

🚆 Expanding Transit to Save Coloradans Money

I worked with my administration to expand affordable, convenient, and clean transit options to save Coloradans money and protect our air:
  • Releasing the Colorado Transportation Vision: 2035
  • Funding clean transportation and land restoration via oil and gas production fees while strengthening pollution reduction and air quality goals
  • Supporting Front Range Passenger Rail and Mountain Rail
  • Making public transit free for youth and supporting Zero Fare for Cleaner Air

🍎 Investing in Colorado Students and Educators While Saving Families Money

We invested in Colorado students and educators to set families up for success and save money by:
  • Growing from 26th to 7th in preschool enrollment nationally, serving more than 85,000 eligible four-year-olds through the second year of our Universal Free Preschool program
  • Fully funding schools by eliminating the Budget Stabilization Factor and updated the school finance formula for the first time in 30 years
  • Making the first two years at public colleges free for families earning up to $90,000 per year
  • Establishing Colorado's third medical school while strengthening healthcare and veterinary workforces

✂️ Cutting Taxes and Saving Coloradans Money

My administration and I continued to prioritize cutting Coloradan's income and property taxes by:
  • Ending the property tax wars and saving Coloradans money on property taxes as well as delivering the largest income and sales tax rate reductions for Coloradans
  • Giving families tax credits to help them thrive and increasing the Earned Income Tax Credit to support working families
  • Providing support to critical child care and health care workers

🛡️ Making Colorado One of the Ten Safest States

This year, we also focused on our goal of making Colorado one of the top ten safest states, with more work on the way:
  • Giving the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) the tools to stop illegal gun activity across the state
  • Strengthening protections against human trafficking and enhancing protections for victims of sexual assault
  • Creating gun-free schools and other public spaces and allowing law enforcement to identify concerning firearm purchases
  • Reducing auto-theft with $8 million in funding going toward these plans in the state budget

🌄 Protecting Colorado’s Future and Achieving 100% Renewable Energy by 2040

In 2024, we continued pursuing strategies that save Coloradans money and protect the state's precious resources:
  • I’m proud to have brokered a historic agreement to make major progress in air quality and ozone protection.
  • I doubled down on my commitment to securing Colorado’s water future by ensuring Colorado’s access to clean water.
  • My administration and I took steps to break down barriers and reduce costs to build a more resilient and affordable grid.
  • Colorado’s EV Tax Credit has saved Coloradans thousands every year, and Colorado is now #1 in EV Sales.
  • Colorado deployed state and federal incentives to help Coloradans switch to cleaner energy and access valuable rebates and tax credits. The State also empowered local communities to save Coloradans money by adopting efficient alternatives to natural gas.
  • Colorado is supporting local and Tribal governments and industry with siting and permitting of renewable energy projects.

⚛️ Leader in Technology and Innovation

My administration has set our sights on continuing to invest in new technologies and prove that quantum is better in the West:
  • I’m proud to have signed legislation to provide $74 million dollars for fully refundable quantum tax credits.
  • Colorado was designated as the Quantum Tech Hub and chosen to receive $40.5 million in funding by the Economic Development Administration.

There is much to celebrate.
Here are a few more things we’ve achieved:

📜519 bills signed
🏘️277 Colorado communities visited
🏆#1 in EV sales, surpassing California
💛#1 in the nation for people with disabilities
🎒2 years of Universal Free Preschool
🚌7th in preschool enrollment nationally
⚛️Nationally designated Quantum Tech Hub
🗑️208 outdated EOs rescinded
🦃4 turkeys pardoned
… and much more.

With this progress, I’m excited to head into 2025 as an even stronger Colorado.

Happy New Year!
