Why Are Liquor Stores & Pot Shops Allowed to Open But Not Churches?

There is news out of Chicago that Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker will be imposing fines on three churches for meeting for worship services this past weekend.

According to the statewide stay-at-home order, churches are considered “nonessential.”

I understand that believers can worship everywhere, anywhere and at any time – but why are churches considered “nonessential” but liquor stores and pot shops deemed essential?

Illinois isn’t the first state to be so heavy handed and employ a double standard when dealing with people of faith.

Two New Representatives Sworn In – and Promptly Sign Petition to Bring ‘Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act’ to a Vote
By: Jeff Johnston

The two newest members of congress – Mike Garcia, R-Calif., and Tom Tiffany, R-Wis. – were sworn in today, after winning special elections in their congressional districts on May 12, 2020. One of the first acts for both was to sign the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act discharge petition.

The Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act would shield infants who survive an attempt to abort them, requiringthat medical practitioners “exercise the same degree of care as reasonably provided to another child born alive at the same gestational age” and “immediately admit the child to a hospital.” Health professionals who violate the act would be subject to criminal penalties, while those who intentionally kill the child would be subject to prosecution for murder.

Many believed it would just be a matter of time.

Same-sex marriage has been legalized across the nation and other alternative relational forms such as polyamory and unmarried cohabitation have become more normalized. Amidst this, Utah Governor Gary Herbert decriminalized polygamy in his state by signing Senate Bill 102 into law on March 28th to very little fanfare. It went into effect May 12, 2020. Only 3 Representatives voted against the bill and it passed unanimously in the Utah Senate to very little debate or discussion by lawmakers. It seemed to be uncontroversial.

The ever-rising death toll from COVID-19 may be sobering, but Americans for the most part are worrying less about the coronavirus than they did in March, a new Gallup poll reveals.

When asked what emotions they experienced “during a lot of the day yesterday,” 47% of those reporting in the April 27 to May 10 timeframe chose “worry,” down from 59% of those who reported the same emotion during the March 23 to April 5 time period.

On the other hand, those experiencing “happiness” over the same time frame increased from 67% to 72%. “Boredom” decreased from 46% to 41%, and “loneliness” stayed the same at 24%.

Government Wants Planned Parenthood Affiliates to Return $80 Million After Improperly Receiving Stimulus Relief

Planned Parenthood affiliates across the country will be forced to return $80 million worth of stimulus funds that these offices improperly applied for under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

According to guidelines set out by the Small Business Administration (SBA), companies cannot receive PPP loans if the affiliate applying is part of an organization with more than 500 employees. According to the report from Fox News, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America corporate office has more than 600 employees, making the affiliate offices across the country ineligible to receive SBA stimulus support.
