All We’ve Accomplished Together in 2024

Dear Neighbor,

I hope this email reaches you and your family in good health and safety. As 2024 comes to a close, I’d like to share a brief recap of our work together and highlight some of our collective accomplishments from the past year.

Influencing Executive Action

Over the past four years, I have worked collaboratively with the Biden-Harris Administration to deliver real results for people from all walks of life, and 2024 was no exception.

As a leading voice in Congress urging President Biden to cancel student debt, we’ve successfully worked to secure over $175 billion in student debt cancelled for more than 4.8 million Americans—including tens of billions of dollars canceled for thousands of borrowers in 2024 alone. That includes more than $73 billion for over one million borrowers through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program–including 22,000 public service workers in Massachusetts.

I have also working in partnership with the disability community to improve access to healthcare, we successfully worked with the Administration to improve access to medical diagnostic equipment for people with disabilities, make birth control available over the counter, invest in women’s health research, and protect essential programs like Social Security.

Over the past two years I have worked to advance clemency priorities, joined by dozens of colleagues united in our press for pardons and commutations. President Biden acted, and over 1,500 people and their families will have their lives changed forever while 37 individuals on federal death row will have their lives saved and be re-sentenced to life in prison without parole. These historic and groundbreaking acts of compassion by President Biden will change and save lives, and I’ll continue working with President Biden to use clemency to address mass incarceration, reunite families, and set our nation on a path to healing.

Nearly 14 months since the horrific October 7, 2023 attack, our ongoing advocacy for peace and a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages has also not let up, and we’ve seen those calls echoed all the way to the White House. From Massachusetts to the Middle East, our destinies are tied and I will keep pushing for peace and diplomacy.

Using the Power of the Pen

Building on years of collective advocacy, I partnered with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro to unveil a groundbreaking GAO report that found that across the United States, Black girls face disproportionately severe discipline compared to other girls and receive harsher punishments than their white peers for similar behaviors. These findings affirm what we’ve known all along and allow us to push back on the harmful narrative that Black girls are disciplined more because they misbehave more.

This year I also conducted vigorous oversight of Project 2025 – a harmful blueprint that is now Donald Trump’s agenda – as co-founder of the Congressional Task Force to Stop Project 2025. For months, my colleagues and I highlighted the hurt and harm it seeks to do – from eliminating the Department of Education to advancing a national abortion ban – and we will continue this critical investigative and oversight work in 2025 and beyond.

Delivering For Our Communities

My team and I aim to restore folks’ faith in government daily and have worked to reach our constituents where they’re at. We continued that impactful work in 2024, securing over $13 million in federal community project funding, supporting affordable housing for LGBTQ+ seniors, childcare, economic development, climate justice, and more.

We also successfully closed hundreds of constituent service cases—helping folks with passport renewals, tax refunds, housing and disability assistance, and more – and we responded to thousands of constituent letters while holding 232 high-impact community events.

My team and I are committed to building meaningful relationships with folks from every corner of our district, which is why I was honored to receive a Democracy Award for Constituent Accountability and Accessibility. I am so fortunate to work with a team dedicated to challenging ourselves to do more and do better each day.
