John,
Trump and the GOP have declared war on tax fairness. Their first priority? Renewing the Trump-GOP tax scam, which will cost $4.6 trillion and mostly benefit millionaires, billionaires, and big corporations.[1]
Their second big target is the IRS itself. Trump’s nominee to lead the agency, former Congressman Billy Long, has openly called for abolishing the IRS altogether.[2] Long wants to replace income taxes with a 30% national sales tax that would punish middle- and lower-income Americans while giving billionaires a free pass.
Meanwhile, the GOP is plotting to gut the IRS’s budget by tens of billions of dollars, crippling enforcement efforts that have already recovered more than $1 billion from wealthy tax cheats this year alone.[3] Their cuts would dismantle the IRS’s ability to hold billionaires accountable.
And then there’s the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, DOGE plans to slash federal services by $2 trillion—with the IRS directly in their crosshairs.[4] Their aim is simple: destroy the IRS, end programs like Direct File, undermine customer service, and shield their billionaire backers from scrutiny.
In 2025 we must fight to stop the Trump-GOP tax scam, defend the IRS from cuts, and expose the Department of Government Efficiency for what it is—an attempt to cut programs and services relied upon by working families in order to pay for more tax cuts for the rich. Will you make an end of year tax-deductible donation of $5 today to stop these attacks and defend tax fairness?
The IRS’s new, free Direct File program is a lifeline for taxpayers who previously relied upon paid services to file their taxes online. In just one limited pilot year, it saved Americans millions of dollars in fees and put refunds directly into their pockets. But the GOP is demanding Trump shut it down on Day One, protecting the profits of companies like TurboTax and H&R Block at your expense.
Project 2025 is another disaster waiting to happen. Under this Republican plan to dismantle government, families making $100,000 could see their taxes rise by $2,600, while millionaires get a $325,000 annual windfall. Corporations would see their tax rates slashed to just 18%, guaranteeing even greater economic inequality.
This fight isn’t just about programs or numbers. It’s about who our tax system works for. Trump’s vision prioritizes billionaires and corporations while leaving the rest of us behind. Our work is about fairness, justice, and ensuring that the wealthiest pay their share.
With your help, we can stop Trump’s dangerous agenda. Make an end of year donation today to power our fight for tax fairness in 2025.
