Friend,
Late last Friday night, buried under news about the crisis that continues to affect us all, President Trump fired Inspector General Steve Linick of the State Department at the behest of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. He is one of five inspectors general removed by the president in the last six weeks.
Until President Trump fired him, the inspector general was investigating whether or not Secretary Pompeo was misusing taxpayer funds and his decision to resume arms sales with Saudi Arabia. It's clear that the president is trying to avoid accountability for himself and those loyal to him. This threatens the very foundation of our democracy.
Sign on to let the president know that you will not tolerate his blatant attempts to obstruct independent investigations and avoid accountability.
Inspectors general play a critical role in our government, acting as independent, nonpartisan watchdogs. They prevent waste and abuse of power within the agencies of the executive branch. Their work is vital.
Yet President Trump has shown time and time again that he will do anything to undermine oversight of his administration. This is just another example of his willingness to harm our democratic institutions for his own personal gain and to protect his allies.
It's time to raise your voice. Add your name to call out the president for this brazen act of corruption.
Together, we will not let this go by unnoticed.
Thank you,
Jack Reed
