Hi John,
I'm Kate. I'm a nurse in Children's Hospital Los Angeles's cancer unit. But 12 years ago, I was a patient.
When I was in seventh grade, I was diagnosed with an aggressive type of bone cancer. I had multiple surgeries and 18 rounds of chemotherapy in the very same unit where I now work! It was an experience that changed me for life—and set me on a path to become a pediatric oncology nurse so I could support kids who are facing the same challenges.
Today I'm writing to you because it's the final day of CHLA's year-end fundraising push. I'm sharing my story so you know what your support means for my patients—and what it meant for me.
If you're able to make a $10 donation before the deadline at midnight tonight, your donation will TRIPLE in impact thanks to Credit Unions for Kids until we reach our $500,000 goal.
12-year-old me in the CHLA oncology ward in 2012.
Today, I work with some of the same nurses who cared for me when I was a kid. It's pretty magical. I remember thinking back then, "These people are amazing. They care so much about every single kid."
I know firsthand the impact of compassionate care and the incredible spirit of the children we treat. Today, I'm grateful to return that same care and kindness as a pediatric oncology nurse on the floor where my journey began.
Here I am earlier this year on the CHLA oncology floor.
As we end this year, I'm reaching out to ask you to join us as we provide lifesaving treatments, comfort, and hope that every child deserves. Your generosity doesn't just help fund clinical care and research; it brings us closer to cures, provides more treatment options, and allows us to serve every child who needs us. Join us right now with a gift of $10 or more and it will be TRIPLED>>
Thank you for being a vital part of our CHLA family.
With gratitude and hope,
Kate Lopez, RN
