A Message from Congresswoman Sherrill Dear Friends, Happy New Year! As we ring in 2025, I am writing to reflect on some of our successes from 2024. Since first taking office, my mission has always been to tackle the biggest issues facing New Jersey families — and this year was no different. Throughout 2024, we worked together to lower costs at the grocery store, continue construction on the Gateway Project while improving NJ TRANSIT service for commuters, and bring home our federal tax dollars to address key issues in our communities — including flood prevention, protecting our open spaces, and creating job training and apprenticeship opportunities. Continue reading to learn more about our highlights throughout the year. Also, you can learn more about the services my office offers NJ-11 residents in need of help with federal agencies, such as the VA, Social Security, or IRS. Wishing you and your family a healthy and happy holiday season. | Rep. Mikie Sherrill Member of Congress | Bringing home our federal tax dollars to address flooding, fight crime, and protect our outdoor spaces | After working with community members and elected officials to identify some of the most pressing issues throughout our district, I successfully secured 15 federally-funded Community Projects to address a wide range of issues — from flood prevention, to cracking down on auto thefts, to workforce development. Along with Community Projects, this year the 11th Congressional District received over 100 competitive grants to fund important projects. | Police chiefs and local leaders across the district came to my team to tell us that Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) were one of the most effective ways to safely curb auto thefts and recover stolen vehicles. This year, we secured federal funding for county-wide ALPRs in both Morris and Essex Counties to keep our communities safe. | We’re no strangers to flooding here in the Garden State, which is why I have been working hard to bring federal dollars home to help us address the root causes of flooding while building flood-resilient infrastructure to protect families, homes, businesses, and communities from storm damage. This year, I was proud to help update a pump station in Wayne that will be protected from flooding, improve water quality, and keep sewer systems running during extreme weather events. | New Jersey is home to some of the nation’s best colleges and universities that are creating opportunities for New Jerseyans and building the skilled workforce of tomorrow. That’s why two of my 2024 community projects delivered grant funding to County College of Morris and Seton Hall University to expand workforce training programs and invest in high-tech research and development. | Lowering costs, fixing commutes, and ensuring every New Jerseyan has an opportunity to thrive | Here in New Jersey, we know that public transit isn’t just an economic issue, but also a key quality of life issue that is central to the day-to-day lives of so many families, including my own. This year, I was proud to secure a Full Funding Grant Agreement to build the Gateway Tunnel, which will improve commute times, reduce traffic, protect our environment, and help make sure that parents can make it home on time to pick up their children from daycare. As construction continued on the Gateway Tunnel, I brought together Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT, as well as federal, state, and local leaders, to demand answers and action to end the “summers of hell” that commuters are experiencing year after year. Through this advocacy, I was proud to deliver federal grants to New Jersey to improve the aging catenary wire systems that played a major role in these unacceptable NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak delays. | All across the Garden State, I’ve heard from families who have struggled to keep up with rising prices at the grocery store — making it harder to put food on the table and make ends meet. This year, I took action by introducing the REDUCE Food Prices Act, which would increase competition, expand tax credits for small grocery stores to open their doors, and drive down prices for families. | I worked with mental health professionals, law enforcement, and local advocates to introduce the Improving Mental Healthcare in the Re-Entry System Act — legislation that would lower crime rates and improve safety in our communities by expanding access to mental health treatment for justice-involved individuals. | Across the nation, we’ve heard harrowing stories of doctors forced to wait for a woman’s fever or heart rate to spike before performing an emergency abortion, only for her to die as a result of that delay. That’s why I introduced a resolution to reaffirm that every woman deserves access to emergency care, including abortion care, and I am continuing to fight to ensure that women in New Jersey — and across the nation — can access abortion care if and when they need it. | A personal favorite — this year we successfully passed bipartisan legislation to award Billie Jean King with a Congressional Gold Medal! A trailblazer for women’s rights and LGBTQ+ equality, Billie Jean’s legacy transcends her dominance on the tennis court. It was wonderful to successfully secure Congress’s highest honor for one of my personal heroes. | Assisting New Jerseyans with Federal Agencies | Working directly with constituents, solving problems, and listening to feedback is the backbone of what I am here to do in Congress. This year, my team and I resolved over 2,000 cases from across NJ-11. We helped 54 veterans with casework, resolved 128 travel issues, and aided with 142 Social Security cases. We brought back over $3 million to NJ-11 constituents, and hosted 15 mobile constituency services events all across the district.
